I wish I had done this two years earlier. To come out of surgery and in 3 weeks have less pain than I did before – it was awesome. -- Debora

Dr. Savage and his PA were both outstanding in their knowledge of my procedure, as well as courteous and professional while discussing my procedure with me. I appreciate Dr. Savage's "no nonsense" approach to my shoulder injury solution. I have experienced Dr.'s whose confidence borders on arrogance, but this was not the case with Dr. Savage and his P.A. –Frank C.

I love Dr. Savage, and all who work with him have been fabulous. To top it off, he sent me cupcakes after my surgery! I thought that was a deliciously thoughtful way to wish me a speedy recovery! I am recommending anyone who will listen to me while on my soapbox that Dr. Savage and Texas Orthopedics are the best orthopedic group in Austin! –Grayson N.

I received rock star attention when I went to Dr. Savage for a problem I was having 5 years post total hip replacement [surgery was performed by another doctor]. I was amazed at how quickly he was able to assess my condition, order tests to confirm, and get me on the road to treatment. I am still undergoing treatment and not completely out of the woods but I feel like I am being taken care of by people who know what they are doing and who really seem to care more about my recovery than my copay. -- Candi D.

I had two hips replaced by one doctor and a double knee replacement by another doctor prior to moving to the Austin area. In addition, I have seen numerous doctors throughout my adult life. Whenever contacting a new doctor, you are always told to forward your records. I’ve always regarded this as necessary but useless measure because I have never had a doctor give me any indication they even glance at the records. Prior to coming to see Dr. Savage for the first time, I sent him all my records from both the hip surgeon and the knee surgery and follow ups.

When I met him for the first time, I was literally stunned to have him begin to talk about my previous surgeries. He didn’t ask questions at first, but told me what he had been able to understand from my files. Then he started to ask questions about the unusual aspects of the surgeries. I am 66 years old and have NEVER had a doctor come to an initial meeting so prepared. What’s more, he told me information about both procedures that none of my previous docs had ever mentioned. I was so amazed; I can only assume this level of preparedness would transfer to the surgical arena as well! -- Lynne H.

On Nov. 1, 2011, I had a right knee total replacement after having the left knee done in June 2010. Both were done by Dr. Savage and I couldn’t have chosen a better surgeon. The left knee went so smoothly that I didn’t think there could be any improvement to the process. I was wrong in that assumption. With the right knee replacement, a Wound Vac was used instead of the staples used the first time. I was walking without an aid of any kind within a week of surgery. The pain has been minimal and I begin outpatient therapy next week after having in-home therapy for just a week and a half. I highly recommend Dr. Savage to anyone needing any type of orthopedic work done. -- Judy R.

My hip replacement surgery went really well and I’ve had a quick recovery and am still getting better. I would certainly recommend Dr. Savage. -- Rachel L.

My experience at the South Austin Orthopaedic Clinic was all good. Dr. Savage was very clear regarding my knee problem and very encouraging regarding pain management and my osteoarthritis. I am excited to have been referred to Dr. Savage and I look forward to working with him and the clinic in the future. --- Mary S.

The anterior hip replacement you did for me in March has been a real life saver. The support system after surgery including nurse visits and therapy in my home was very helpful. It has been nine weeks since the surgery, and I am walking in the mornings and evenings, resuming my gym workouts, and am pain free.

It was very helpful for me to speak with a person who had been through the process before my operation. If any of your patients want to talk about the operation with me, I would be glad to give them a detailed description of my experience.

I’ve had degenerative arthritis for years and my knees kept giving me increasing discomfort and pain in spite of arthroscopic surgery and shots. It became clear that knee replacement surgery was the only remaining option.

Dr. Savage replaced my left knee on 8 Feb 05 and my right knee on 14 June 05. The surgeries were completely successful. That, plus the physical therapy regime he prescribed subsequent to each operation, has restored me to full vigor.

I can now do anything without pain or discomfort. My friends, some of whom have also had a knee replaced, marvel at how well I move. Their surgeries were done by other competent surgeons but none has had as successful an outcome as I have had. I highly recommend Dr. Savage. -- Will R.

I have suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for nearly 15 years. I was treated with numerous medications and lived in a tremendous amount of pain. I was unable to walk up stairs, and could only walk in my home, as any leveled surface caused me to fall. I walked with the use of a cane for 12 years; after having progressed from a wheelchair to a walker to the cane. I developed trouble sleeping and was unable to do so for longer than 4 hours a night. Additionally, sitting for prolonged periods of time increased the stiffness in my hip, making it nearly impossible to rise to a standing position without excruciating pain. This was also the cause for numerous falls which caused stress and depression.

Dr. Savage came highly recommended to do total surgical hip replacement and after my first visit, it only took a week to make up my mind to go through with the procedure. Dr. Savage was great about the description and details of the surgery and put me at ease regarding the process. He felt that I was a good candidate and strongly recommended it. Thereafter, the recovery only took 6 weeks, ridding myself of my wheelchair, walker, and cane. It came as a tremendous surprise to many of my friends and family, however, my only response after walking comfortably without discomfort and a cane is I’m very pleased with the outcome. I recently had my annual checkup and everything looks and feels great! I will return in 2 years for my next check up! -- Mary C.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you so very much for suggesting the titanium plate surgery to repair my broken radius. Being a massage therapist, I needed a quick recovery and definitely didn’t want the burden of a cast. Well, it’s been 11 weeks since I underwent the surgery and I’ve already regained full use and strength of my arm, wrist, and hand. …. And I’m back to work! It’s amazing!!!

Again, thanks so very much….you’re my favorite orthopedic surgeon! -- Jill T.
