Ligiment and Meniscus Tears

Dr. Savage has over 2 decades experience with arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. The most common ligament and meniscus tear injuries are damaged ACL and rotator cuff injuries.

Torn cartilage is also known as torn meniscal tissue.  The knee has 2 cushion like structures internally.  These normally help the parts of the knee to fit together smoothly and distribute forces across the knee.  With injury or age related degeneration this tissue can be damaged to the point it limits motion or causes pain.  This tissue has limited capacity for repair and regeneration without surgery.  If you suffer from pain and disability related to a torn meniscus in the knee Dr. Savage can discuss options for treatment and he has over 2 decades experience with arthroscopic surgery of the knee.

Ligaments connect bones together across a joint to stabilize the joint and allow motion only in the desired planes of movement.  Common injuries to the knee include tears of the anterior cruciate ligament.  This important ligament helps the bones of the knee stay appropriately aligned during movement.  Once torn the ligament will not regrow or regenerate spontaneously.  For persons with this type of injury Dr. Savage can assist with reconstruction of a new ligament using tissue grafts and arthroscopic surgery.
